The Idea Garage offers an opportunity to all those interested in personalised medicine to propose and validate new ideas on how personalised medicine can better solve medical and healthcare related problems.

The aim of the idea garage is to gather people with different backgrounds and skillsets to elaborate on innovative personalised medicine ideas in small teams.

The focus of the event is to find new ideas in the field and validate them during the event with help of mentors.  No prototypes are built yet.

So if, for example, medical experts know how personalised medicine could solve certain healthcare challenges, then IT experts have experience on how to build relevant software or hardware solutions and the business experts know what it takes to turn the idea into product or service. Thus, we are looking for participants with backgrounds in medicine and healthcare, ICT, natural sciences (chemistry and physics), marketers, and visionary entrepreneurs. Students, practitioners, scientists as well as anyone with an innovative idea related to personalised medicine are welcome.

    Why personalised medicine?

Personalised medicine is a fast-growing field that focuses on the provision of customised healthcare services that are based on individual health, behavioural and genetic data. It is about tailoring medical treatment according to the specific characteristics, needs and preferences of each individual, guiding decisions in all stages from prevention to diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. By shifting focus from a reactive approach to a preventive approach in healthcare, personalised medicine helps to predict disease susceptibility, improve disease detection, pre-empt disease progression, prescribe more effective drugs, eliminate trial-and-error inefficiencies and failures etc. As personalised medicine is closely connected to R&D new ideas need to be developed and validated in order to innovate the field.

Estonian Government is preparing an ambitious Personalised Medicine Pilot Programme for years 2015-2018 aiming to put Estonia into the forefront of development of Personalised Medicine Applications. Read more about the programme HERE.

    About Registration

All the registrations will be reviewed and once approved you can participate at the event.

The Idea Garage is organized by Garage48 Foundation and Buildit Accelerator in cooperation with Estonian Ministry of Social Affairs.

    How will it look like?

We’ll gather in the morning and split up into small groups. In these groups we will work on the following:

    • We identify what kind of a problem the idea solves.
    • We detail the solution.
    • We identify the target customers and the market.
    • We see if there is a sustainable (business) model for the solution.
    • We discuss what could be the scope of the initial prototype – is there anything what can be built during 48h hackathon.
We will prepare a presentation and a small pitch to introduce the outcomes of the work to all participants. The best ideas presented will receive special awards from the Jury.
