Garage48 Tallinn Music 2012 rocks your socks off

January 30, 2012
This time Garage48 is truly going to ROCK! Our fifth event in Estonia, this time called Garage48 Tallinn Music 2012, is focusing on creating web and mobile based music and entertainment products. For that we’ve joined forces with the music industry conference and festival Tallinn Music Week. Garage48 Tallinn Music 2012 takes place March 23-25 at Ülemiste City in Tallinn, Estonia and Tallinn Music Week follows a week later.
“The theme of this year’s Garage48 event, music, is much wider than just listening to music. We are open to any entertainment, music and artist related projects, be it events, ticket sales, engagement with fans, video services, better marketing for artists, music gamification, creating and publishing entertainment content and so on,” said co-founder of Garage48 Jüri Kaljundi. “Many successful music technology companies come from Nordic countries. As there definitely is potential in this area, we feel start-ups from Estonia and our region should focus more on music and entertainment opportunities as well.”

You do not have to have previous music-related experience and projects from other areas will be allowed as well. Preference though is still given to anything related to music and entertainment. So start thinking of ideas and register now at http://garage48.org/tallinn/registration

We also have a special motivation for you. The best five music products or services will participate a week later on a pitching session at Tallinn Music Week conference, where a jury of international music industry key players and potential investors will give their comments and choose their favourite. This is your chance to get a kickstart to international music tech scene.

“I believe that technology will be even more of a driving force for the direction that music industry is heading towards and it’s time we really team up with the brilliant minds and ideas of the technology innovators today,” comments Helen Sildna, organizer of TMW. “Now that finally iTunes online music store launched in our part of the world in 2011, there is going to be a much broader awareness of digital music purchase for music lovers in Eastern European countries, I hope Spotify and other services will follow, but that is just one side of the story – with this incredible drive and energy we see emerging from our start-ups scene I wouldn’t be surprised if Estonia comes up with a smart music product as globally known, used and loved as Skype is.”

Like always, during the event around one hundred software developers, designers, marketeers and visionaries from Estonia and abroad will gather at Tallinn Technopolis Ülemiste City for one weekend. The event is open both for students as well as seasoned specialists. Your goal is to brainstorm new ideas, form teams and in 48 hours create 10 to 15 new Internet or mobile services in the field of music and entertainment.

By Sunday evening the products and services must be market ready and available for anyone on the Internet. During the event the teams are mentored by internationally renowned specialists. At Sunday gala night, broadcast for free live on the Internet, a jury of music industry professionals and investors will choose the winners.

The goal of the event is to increase the interest in creating music and entertainment solutions among Estonian technology world and start-ups. More information can be found at http://garage48.org/tallinn where participant registration will also start today.

During 2011 a total of 11 Garage48 weekend hackathons took place in 8 countries across Europe and Africa and 131 new product prototypes were created. Two of the teams, Qminder and Campalyst, got investments from the leading European tech accelerator Seedcamp.

Garage48 events are organized by Garage48 Foundation, a non-profit organization started by 6 Estonian entrepreneurs. All of the founders are members of Estonian Startup Leaders Club, connecting more than 35 Estonian start-up founders. All Garage48 events are organized together with local start-up enthusiasts and local partners. Garage48 Tallinn Music event is organized together with venue partner Technopolis Ülemiste Smart Business City. Garage48 events are non-profit community events. Garage48 Tallinn Music 2012 is supported by Skype, Elion, Credit24 and British Council. The event is partly financed through Enterprise Estonia (EAS) by European Social Fund (ESF).

Tallinn Music Week is a music industry conference and show-case festival of Estonian talent taking place for the fourth year and attended by 250 international music entrepreneurs and organizations to create networks with music businesses and artist’s representatives from Estonia and the region. This year’s event takes place on 29-31 March in Nordic Hotel Forum and clubs and concert venues all over Tallinn. In the festival programme about 150 Estonian artists with international potential will perform as well as a considerable number of foreign artists.
